Mini Podcast Series: The Traceability Gap

Traceability is often presented as the key to transparency, food safety, and trust in seafood supply chains. But what does it actually look like in practice?

The Traceability Gap, developed as part of FishEUTrust, is a two-part podcast series exploring the real-world challenges behind traceability in the fish and aquaculture sector.

In the first episode, Cecilia Cristea and her team from the Iuliu Hațieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca discuss the development of sensors for seafood products. Through demonstrations in Living Labs across Europe, the conversation highlights both the potential of these technologies and the challenges of deploying them outside laboratory environments.

The second episode features Mette Frandsen from OxyGuard International in Copenhagen, offering an industry perspective on traceability in aquaculture. The discussion explores fragmented data systems, the difficulty of standardising information across countries and companies, and why effective traceability must create real value for producers rather than adding administrative burden.
